T. E. Lawrence to Raymond Savage
Plymouth
10.6.31.
Dear Savage,
I, too, have thought of trying some
day, after my R.A.F. life ends, to write something, and put it through is pseudonymously. Only suppose the ballet thing succeeded! We should be
in the soup, then.
It therefore seemed to me an impractical plan. I
could only publish it if I could find a real name to father it – i.e.
some poor wretch who would acknowledge it as his, if it came off, or
didn't come off. The second is easy, the first very difficult to him. Frankly, I think it is too hard to hope for.
So your letter has not opened the way to avoid the
responsibility of writing, I fear. Thanks all the same.
Yours ever,
T. E. Shaw
